Esse Quam Videri Reception and Talk

  • National Humanities Center 7 TW Alexander Drive Research Triangle Park, NC, 27709 United States (map)

Listen to Ann Fox, juror and Professor of English at Davidson College discuss the state of Disability Arts and Aesthetics with Ann Millett-Gallant and Cara Smelter.

Esse Quam Videri is a visual exploration of North Carolina’s social, political, economic, and physical landscape, through the lens of artists with disabilities. Each exhibiting artist’s work showcases their personal experience living in North Carolina as a person with a disability. The exhibition as a whole showcases works by a diverse group of artists who use their disability in their creative practice or as content for their work. Titled with Esse Quam Videri, Latin for “to be, rather than to seem” the exhibition explores disability’s representation, disability aesthetics, and how disability history and culture have shaped North Carolina.

Free and open to the public.
